Ring-necked Dove

Ring-necked Dove Streptopelia capicola
Yabello Area, Ethiopia
19 January 2014

This small, slim dove was relatively common and fairly easily approachable. It was quite at home in villages and towns and seemed to be well habituated to humans.

  1. Lovely muted colours in the plumage. Doves seem to be very comfortable in the presence of humans.

  2. This species is similar to Streptopelia decaocto, which occurs in Europe :-)
    Nice photos of beautiful pigeon.

  3. Well done with achieving such good photos. I find doves and pigeons challenging as they tend to constantly move their heads!

  4. AHA!
This one is quite familiar in France too!
We call it the Turkish dove!
On your pics I notice a lovely pinkish tinge on the neck and breast.

    1. I believe you are referring to a different species, Noushka, Eurasian Collared Dove Streptopelia decaocto. See note above from Dzial.
