Northern Harrier

Northern Harrier, Circus hudsonius
3 April 2013

We ventured forth again tonight to search for the first Eastern Bluebird Sialia sialis to return to its normal haunts. Unduly late, there is still no sign of a bluebird, but we considered ourselves very fortunate to see this male Northern Harrier on the ground. For me, it is one of the most striking of our local raptors. The picture does not do it justice but it flew almost as soon as we stopped the car.

David M. Gascoigne,
David M. Gascoigne,

I'm a life long birder. My interests are birds, nature, reading, books, outdoors, travel, food and wine.
