Hello everyone.
This is Lily and I am very happy to "see" you all again via David's blog.
My mom and I had a great visit with Miriam and David at their house, where we started out in the kitchen for tea and cookies. Well, the adults had tea and I had water. The cookie was really good, the kind you can squish in your hand and strew crumbs all over the floor. That's the best kind!
I guess my hair was pretty staticky. How much fun is that?
But best of all was when we went to the family room and David let me handle some of his bird carvings and statues.
Climbing up on the hearth is always a good start.
I think that David has some very precious and valuable carvings so he put those high up where I couldn't reach them, but there was still lots to enjoy, and I didn't get to even half of them. I started out with a Northern Shoveler and an American Black Duck.
You see how I was allowed to handle them. I have a Canvasback in my hand and my mom is sliding a Northern Pintail towards me.
So far we had only gotten a few of the birds from the family room, but David's office has lots more and we went down there together.
I am quite sure that little people like me have special powers over adults, because every time I said, "More", David would take me to his office and I chose new ones to bring up to show to Mom and Miriam.
There are a few stairs down to the office, and if I just stood there at the top, David would pick me up and lift me down to the bottom so that I didn't have to struggle with the steps - and it kept my hands free to carry new treasures too.
Maybe next time David and I can sit together and look at some of his wonderful bird books. I had better wash my hands before I do that!
See you again soon. Hugs and kisses from Lily.

ReplyDeleteOh my word, Lily, what an incredibly fun day for you (and, I am sure, the big peeps!) There are very few young ladies in the world who get to play with such special things. What is more, you were totally dressed for the occasion - so pretty. (I forgive the hair, for my own is untamable!) Sending huggies right back across to you, YAM-aunty xxx
What a lovely way for Lily to learn about birds. She will be identifying them on the
ReplyDeletewater before you know it!
She already identifies Mallards and Canada Geese, Carol.
DeleteI love these photos of Miss Lilly and the various birds from David's house, and eggs too! Thanks for the album of her adventures!
Spoiling and teaching at the same time: the joys.
ReplyDeleteWith Lily both come easy, Graham.
DeleteSo very cute and I bet she will be a fast learner with you as one of her teachers.
ReplyDeleteShe has quite a mischievous gleam in her eye in the 3rd to last photo!
ReplyDeleteShe does, doesn't she?
DeleteShe is adorable.
ReplyDeleteAnd that goes beyond her looks, William.
DeleteLily looks like she had lots of fun. She will be identifying them by the time she is 4, if not sooner. Smile. She is adorable and it looks like you had a wonderful visit. I hope Lily posts again soon. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteHer mom is a biologist so between the two of us I hope so!

All the best Jan
You just point the camera at Lily and you have a lovely photograph!
DeleteWhat a WONDERFUL day - for you all.
ReplyDeleteYou are a miniature Boris, and will grow up to be a much finer version!
ReplyDeleteI am quite sure if she Boris she would recoil in horror. As would I!
DeleteSuch a cutie! Love the hair too.
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful collection. Nice to see Lily’s delight. Beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteThere is more!
DeleteHow adorable! You are spoiling her, and that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteLove her electric hair! My grandson has hair like that--as I did as a child, too--LOL! :)
ReplyDeleteLovely duck collection!!
She will be grateful for such experiences and learning for the rest of her life, even if she doesn't become an ornithologist - which she probably will. She will at least love nature I am sure (and take good care of it). Well done big folks.

Lily is so sweet, and it looks that she had a lot of fun with your carved birds David. I guess you spoil her a lot, but you can not resist her. I understand you very well!
ReplyDeleteHugs and kisses, Marit
Lily is such a delight to see. She's grown into a lovely little girl, and her smiles show how happy she was at your place. I have lots of bird statues, too, perhaps I must show them one day! Thanks for sharing, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI will look forward to seeing your collection, Valerie.
DeleteWhat a treasure!!! That is all that needs to be said!! Hugs to Lily
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for stopping by to link in this week.
A great way to learn.
ReplyDeleteFun too.
DeleteHi David - totally wonderful to see Lily on her visit ... I was wondering about the great outdoors - those temperatures are rather 'cruel' at the moment. Brilliant she's going to be always curious and learning ... delightful post - thanks for sharing with us - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day for Lily and Heather. She is a sweetie and looks very interested with all the bird carvings. Cute series of photos. Take care, enjoy your day! Have a happy new week!
ReplyDeleteLily is a very lucky little girl to have such caring and thoughful friends along with her Mum, who all share their great love of wildlife with her.
ReplyDeleteShe is a lovely little girl with gorgeous "staticky" hair.
Bravo, David! Lily is so lucky to have you as a mentor. These lessons in respect for property and wildlife will benefit all, and your avoidance of baby-talk is exemplary. The real beauty of it is that, from your photos, it is evident that she's actually having a whale of a time!
ReplyDeleteHi David.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing. how little Lily can learn so much from all of you around her.
You see her enjoying.
And I enjoy this side of the p.c. double along.
With the beautiful birds and eggs she shows and of course from Lily.
It's a hit.
Greetings from Patricia.
How wonderful to have Lily visit with her mother David.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo of Lily, and a delicious crumble cookie.
Greetings Tinie
Two things struck me: both delightful. One is that you don't talk 'baby talk' to Lily, but offer her the proper names of the treasures she's finding. The other is your patience, which makes an afternoon like this possible. I was lucky enough to have grandparents who weren't well educated and who had little economic security, but who had infinite patience, and taught me to pay attention to the world just as you're teaching Lily.
ReplyDelete...Lily is getting so BIG, I like her do!
ReplyDeleteAt some point she has made the transition from a baby to a little person with her own personality, quirks, preferences etc.
ReplyDeleteLily is a beautiful little girl. I have 2 grandsons.
ReplyDeleteBetween Miriam and I we have four grandsons, so are thrilled to have this little girl in our lives.
DeleteLove the hair, Lily!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bright little button you are Lily, and what a wonderful treat to be able to play with David's carvings and marble eggs.
ReplyDeleteYou do have special powers, Lily. I can see many wonderful times in the future for you. Hugs and kisses right back at you, little sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteDear Lily,
ReplyDeletenice that you had so much fun playing around with David's ducks.
Best regards, Corrie
Lily you are so beautiful and grown up. Playing is always a great way to learn.
What a delightful visit from Lily. I think you two are a perfect pair, David. She's darling and she's getting a wonderful education even though she doesn't know it -- it's just fun!
ReplyDeleteIt's true, Jeanie, there is a lot of education in play.
DeleteWhat better way to learn about the birds with these great examples of the carved birds and David to tell you all about it Lilly.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Roos
