Of late, there seems to be more and more involved with posting a comment to some blogs, not all by any means, but enough!
It is a little tedious having to repetitively certify that I am not a robot, but many blogs have introduced an additional step where you are required to check items in a montage of pictures. First of all, it doesn't always work. I have tried three times on a blog this morning and it will not accept my comment and keeps recycling me back to the pictures. Even if I deliberately make a wrong selection it does not present a new set of images.
Add to this, if the blog is from a Norwegian, or a Dutch blogger, or a Polish blogger, the instructions for the pictures are in that language, and if the blogger is Russian, Cyrillic script is used. Obviously, I do not wish to imply a sense of entitlement about the English language, but to have to copy and then Google a translation, and then return to the pictures, is annoying to say the least. AND IT DOESN'T ALWAYS WORK!
I am not sure whether bloggers have to choose to have these buffers on their blog or whether they are a component of the blog over which they have no choice. It is frustrating, however.
If you know that I follow your blog and I have not left a comment as I normally do, this is probably the reason. It certainly is not because I find your blog any less interesting. I am just stymied when I try to do it and after three attempts I give up.
It is tough on some of these blogs agreed.
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you. There are a few blogs I can't comment on anymore. I removed that step on my blog. I moderate anyway. Have a great today.
ReplyDeleteI find such components required of potential commenters extremely annoying also and unnecessary. After all, if the blogger doesn't want the comment, he or she can always delete it. Be assured that I would never add these "extras" to my blog and if they show up there, it'll be because I have no control over them!
ReplyDeleteI could not agree more. The robot is one thing, but the picture (that quite often does not work easily) is a real pain. I now do not bother to comment under those circumstances. Keep safe, Diane
ReplyDeleteן don't think it's the bloggers that choose these buffers. It\s probably Blogger's work.
ReplyDeleteI know I choose nothing for fear I might complicate things. I want everything kept as simple as possible.
I actually don't think it's people adding photo captchas to their blogs. I think Blogger is doing it regardless of what the blogger wants.
ReplyDeleteIt comes and goes, I find. But I hate the concept. And I think that after one has done it for no more than three posts, it should be a given to Google that the person is not a robot.
I understand your frustration, David. I believe most blog tools allow the blog originator to specify the level of security required. I wonder, however, if blog owners are aware of what steps are required by people to post comments on their blog. For example, I have no idea whether anyone commenting on my blog has to go through some sort of verification process but I hope not. Please let me know if it does. I prefer to take care of security with the moderation process.
ReplyDeleteYours is straightforward, Richard.
DeleteI hanve not encountered this problem so far. But thanks for the warning. :)
ReplyDeleteHi David - have you tried ignoring the captcha thingie? I ignore them ... WP and Blogger I can work out - other occasional blogs bug me - but I only do one or two of those ... I also won't comment - if it's really a pain. Take care - have a glass of wine! Stay safe - all the best - Hilary

ReplyDeleteAre these actually Blogger blogs... or another platform such as WP? I only know of 'click tick' (not controlled by blog owner) and word verification (controlled from dashboard) for Blogger. If people are getting a lot of spam they may choose to use verification, but can also do as you and put all comments to mediation. Those who use the 'pop out box' for comments will find that the click tick is there, but anyone who is also a Blogger/Google user does not have to use that and can ignore it. The pic verifications are an absolute pain, so I understand your rant - I simply don't even try with those on the very odd occasion I come across them. Which, on reflection, has not been for at least a year maybe more, so I hope this is not a resurgence!!! YAM xx
Hello David,
ReplyDeleteI am not having any problems. I hope things will be sorted out by blogger.
Have a wonderful evening.
I tried multiple times to leave a comment on your blog today, Marijke, totally without success.
DeleteWow, I am sorry to hear you have been running into this problem. I haven't seen it (yet) leaving blogger comments, but I have seen it on other sites. And I have had the exact same problem sometimes: I KNOW I've clicked correctly on the images, yet it then puts up ANOTHER set of images for me to verify, and it just goes on and on until I give up. I can't even imagine having the instructions be in another language, and needing to do the translate first, to see what one is supposed to click on. I moderate my comments due to spam comments being left, but to the best of my knowledge, I did not enable that image verifier thing to appear, so I hope you don't run into that on my blog.
ReplyDeleteI am pretty certain that Blogger rather than bloggers is at fault. In addition, on some blogs (those with the capacity to reply to individual comments) I diligently type my comment and it disappears. Repeatedly. Sometimes it can take me up to twelve hours and multiple comments before the comment takes. I am stuck in proving I am not a robot mode at the moment but hope that today (or tomorrow) it will disappear again for a few days. Hiss and spit.
ReplyDeleteI have had the same experiences. The captcha is the blogger's choice. A business doesn't have to mess with all that.
ReplyDeleteI have missed seeing your talents displaying such beauty; since surgery I need to feel some wonder.
I am seldom asked to certify that I am not a robot, but sometimes I do anyway, just for a heck of it.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if you still have problems with commenting on my blog, David.
ReplyDeleteIt has been fine lately, Marit.
DeleteIt's not always easy, I do my best to persevere :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
P.S. I was just on another blog, and noticed the "Please prove you're not a robot" thing at the bottom. BUT - I also had the button to "Publish Your Comment" and when I click on that, it takes my comment, so I don't need to do the "reCAPTCHA" thing. If you are clicking on that box to enable that check, try not clicking on that box, and just click on the "Publish Your Comment" and see if it takes your comment without requiring you to do the verification. If you're not clicking on that checkbox, and it still appears, then ignore this comment of mine, because something else is making it appear.
ReplyDeleteOh, I know the same frustration as you just mentioned. I ranted to my wife last night. What really gets me is when you go through the process and it doesn't work. The montage of photos sometimes are hard to see what they ask you to check off. My experince is this happens once a week.
Buenas Noches.
And? Are you really not a robot? LOL
ReplyDeleteSorry for you, I know that is frustrating!
I completely agree with your opinion regarding the levels of security that some blogs incorporate. I hope mine doesn't offer those problems, and if not, let me know. Best regards
ReplyDeleteHi David,
ReplyDeletethat kind of "security" can be very annoying.
I don't hope Blogger will start this kind of things.
Best regards, Corrie
ReplyDeleteWow I have never run into that yet. that spot where you are suppose to check if you are a robot or not I never check it and my comment still gets posted-have not seen what you are describing yet though-sounds awful
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the photos. I have struggles with a few as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope you and Miriam can visit PEI this year, David. I could give you a few tips regarding places to see and the like. I’d like to meet up at some point if you’re open to it, maybe have a picnic along a trail somewhere?
Sounds wonderful, Marie. We'll be sure to let you know as and when our travel plans develop. COVID is the determining factor, of course.
ReplyDeleteNi he tenido ningún problema con tu blog, Teresa. Un abrazo.
DeleteI could not post for a while and finally realized I needed to certify the robot I was not. Then it stopped. I decided it was a blogger phenomena, as one wonderful old woman I follow would never put her son up to making it mandatory. Other than that, I'm no help.
ReplyDeleteIn the past, I think bloggers chose to have the verification system with the pictures. It made me crazy so I stopped commenting on those blogs. Recently it has come up a few times, but I suspect the blogger no longer chooses it because it's so rare.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Oh no! I haven't come across this yet. Grrr!
ReplyDeleteI understand your frustration.
ReplyDeleteI have only enabled me to give permission to post the comment.
This is because sometimes very nasty spam has been posted.
I wish you a nice weekend.
Greetings Irma
I have had the same issue myself and like you find it so frustrating. I am also having problems with loading photos in the right order, blogger does what it wants.
ReplyDeleteI hope David you have not problem with comments on my blog. Some time ago I set capcha but then I deleted it.
ReplyDeleteThis is happening to all bloggers who make more than a certain amount of comments. Blogger is doing this, I mostly have 3 days with I am not a robot and one day without, and it really is a pain in the .... Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThis is so true and so hilarious, David! I don't think you have had that problem with me blog, but if so, let me know and I will investigate. Because the last thing we need in this time is something so annoying!
Bon weekend
That is annoying, and disappointing when you have already formulated that perfect comment and then can’t get it to go. I’ve run into it a few times, too.
ReplyDeleteI have not faced that registration or verification process. It might be the blog set-up. I do have the 'I am not a robot' to check, but it was required by my version of blogger and you actually do not have to check it to make a comment!
ReplyDeleteThis was a good post, David, and like a couple of others have commented, I too have seen the capta to "prove you're not a robot" on a couple of blogs and I too ignore it and the comment posts fine. I have received your comments on my posts, so hopefully there are no issues for other bloggers to leave comments on my posts.
ReplyDeleteMy issues are when going from a Blogger to other blogs in for example, Word Press, I often have to sign in with a name, email address and blog site despite the fact that I previously commented on said blogs.
I know that many bloggers are concerned with getting spam and other unwanted comments, but these can be effectively deleted and comment moderation is something I enforce afterwards at my discretion and not before. So, in effect, I do try to take control of such comments.
I haven't changed something on my blog.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you. These extra security features are so cumbersome.
ReplyDeleteI agree those instructions are a real pain. Blogger required me to have an 'I am not a robot' message but apparently it doesn't stop people commenting if they ignore it.
ReplyDeleteYou do not have to check the box that says you are not a robot on my comments...you can skip it and it will still go through. I hate having to enter ALL my info to make a comment. But it's always changing...and not usually for the better! Enjoy your day! Hugs...am I allowed to send hugs? hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteHugs are always welcome in my world, so if they start banning those it will be the end!!
DeleteI agree David, I saw it recently on some blogs. The pictures are sometimes hard to see aswell. Luckely your (and my) blog works without it.
ReplyDeleteBest regards and have a nice sunday,
Marianne
Oops !!!! I hope you don't have to do this on my blog David! I do know that some from another blog like wordpress have to do this but I have no idea how to turn this off. I cannot comment on their blog with some other bloggers and I think that is a great shame.
ReplyDeleteKind regards, Helma
