A Quilt for Lily

For anyone who knows Miriam, either personally, or via this blog, it will come as no surprise that as soon as we learned that Heather was pregnant, she resolved to make a quilt for the new baby - and we knew it would be a girl.

A couple of years ago, before she was even married, Heather had brought over an afghan she had been crocheting to ask a little advice of Miriam, and it involved creating a border for a piece made of hexagons, a shape Heather liked. Miriam remembered this and incorporated that shape into the quilt she made for Lily.

No doubt a charge of bias could be levelled against me, but I think Miriam did a remarkable job, and created a work of great beauty, with precision and attention to detail that is second to none.
Heather was thrilled. But best of all Lily liked it too!

We hope that she will enjoy it as much as she appears to be doing here for many years to come.
The term "Labour of Love" may be a little overworked; this quilt truly was!

  7. Those colors are so beautiful and her workmanship divine. Love that you showed the back of the quilt. The piecing is always the showstopper but a lot of the work is the actual back quilting, I think! Well done -- I know it will be loved forever.

  17. This quilt is beautiful, and beautifully done. I'm a bit prejudiced on finishes, and I'm so happy to see it is finished and bound exactly as I do/would have done. No distracting borders, just sew it to the edge and bind it. Done. Beautiful, Miriam.

  20. A beautiful quilt, beautifully done. I still have a quilt my grandmother and her friends pieced before I was born. It's a pattern called Grandmother's Flower Garden, and it's also done with hexagons. I know that this one will be equally treasured!

  28. Hi Miriam and David,

What a beautiful quilt! I love it, pink is my favourite color and Miriam choose lovely patterns and remembered the hexagon shape that Heather likes and made someting wonderful out of it. I'm glad Heather and Lily like it very much (but I think that's obvious). It's very nice that you can create such beautiful pieces of 'art'. And of course David, you can be proud of Miriam.

All the best from your friend from Holland,
    Marianne

  38. My mother and my aunts were all quilters and I own many that they created. They are a treasure beyond price to me. I even have one with a hexagonal pattern such as that used by Miriam. Her quilt is beautiful and I'm sure it, too, will be treasured in years to come.
