Those readers who have followed our adventures at SpruceHaven are familiar with the lovely and talented young biologist, Daina Anderson, who does so much to help our operation run so well.
Daina has a friend who recently delivered a healthy baby boy and she had decided to make a baby quilt as a gift for the newborn. It's hard to believe but the baby put in an appearance two weeks before the quilt was complete; couldn't wait to get to the quilt, I guess!
This was Daina's first attempt at quilting, in fact her second project only, and she enlisted Miriam's help to get her through some of the finer points of the art. Miriam was amazed from the get-go at Daina's proficiency and was impressed with her attention to detail.
The quilt is very attractive indeed and speaks to Daina's excellent taste in selecting and assembling the fabrics.
Miriam said that her cutting was as accurate and precise as a seasoned veteran. It was a pleasure for Miriam to work with Daina to offer her a little advice here and there and pass on the benefit of her experience.
Congratulations, Daina, on a job very well done.
I have the delight every day of living with an accomplished quilter and creative artist and now I have a second one coming to visit. How lucky can one guy get!

Dimi...
Hello David!:) You are a lucky man indeed! The quilt is beautiful, with charming images and colours. Well done to Daina for such a brilliant first attempt at quilting, which takes a great deal of patience, as well as skill, both of which Daina and Miriam have aplenty.:)
ReplyDeleteMy book arrived just a few moments ago!
Hope you enjoy the book!
DeleteIs there a way the quilt can grow bigger as the baby grows?
ReplyDeleteMaybe that will be the next thing - expandable quilts!
DeleteIt is beautiful and certainly the baby will sleep well under it. Regards,
ReplyDeleteQuilting is contagious and addictive, a job well done!

ReplyDeleteIt is a craft I greatly admire but have no aptitude for myself; my sister got all those genes! This is, indeed, a very fine first go. YAM xx
Beautifully made.
ReplyDeleteGroettie from Patricia.
Hello, what a beautiful quilt. I love the fabrics. Well done! Happy Monday, enjoy your day and new week!
ReplyDeleteHi David,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! It's a lot of work. It requires a lot of patience.
Well done Daina, quilting can look fabulous as your does, or look terrible. I did some quilting when we lived in Mafikeng but never continued after we left. Somehow just never enough time to do the many things now that I used to do!!! Diane
ReplyDeleteEveryone mentioned in this post is fortunate indeed! You and Miriam and your lovely and talented young friend ... and the baby who receives the beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteHi Both,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Daina and Miriam in the completion of such a beautiful quilt. This will hopefully keep the little boy snug through the remaining winter months.
Superb post and great header.
All the best, John
Thanks, John. The header brings back great memories of a fabulous pelagic trip to the Humboldt Current off the coast of Chile.
DeleteMy paternal grandmother was an accomplished quilter and I am fortunate to have some of her works. I know what precision and skill it takes. This looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLovely smiling face of Daina.
ReplyDeleteBoth quilts look beautiful, well done.
It’s both sides of the same quilt, Margaret.
DeleteLovely quilt, didn't she do so well. One job I can't do, more the pity.
ReplyDeleteMy mother's hobby is quilting actually...........
ReplyDeleteI like the print on the fabric and the sky blue colour.
ReplyDeleteI did a little bit of quilting in my teenage years. It's a long lost skill for me now though. I like your new cover photo.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteLucky baby!
All the best Jan
I'm very impressed by Daina's quilt, David. She's a lucky girl having Miriam's expert advice - my own piece of Miriam's work is getting good use this winter and will be accompanying me to Scotland in a couple of days - a solo trip this time.
ReplyDeleteMy love to you both - - Richard
Have a great trip!
DeleteJust beautiful.. Great work.. Happy weekend
