Heather Gets Married

08 February 2019

Anyone who has read my blog over the past three years is well familiar with Heather Polan, the dedicated and brilliant young biologist who has contributed so much to our Barn Swallow research project, and to our bird banding operations in general.
On Friday last Heather was married to Shane English, and Miriam and I were privileged to be guests at the wedding.
I cannot imagine a more beautiful and radiant bride. And Shane cuts a fine figure too! The esteem in which I hold this couple, and the affection I have for them, is inestimable.
May they have a long and happy life filled with joy, success and the fulfillment of their dreams.
I hope you will all join with me in wishing them great happiness forever.

David M. Gascoigne,
David M. Gascoigne,

I'm a life long birder. My interests are birds, nature, reading, books, outdoors, travel, food and wine.

  6. David - I agree - they make quite an attractive couple - and it sounds like they have brains to boot! I like your suit (and the necktie - I think it was worth a little bit of discomfort to look so dapper!)

  20. Two handsome couples indeed. Can not remember the last time I wore a suit and tie. Perhaps the last family wedding or even my own some 52 years ago!

Was it a good nosh-up David?

    1. My one and only suit, Phil. I bought it in 2003 and get it out for weddings, so it mostly hangs in a garment bag in the closet. Thank goodness men's fashions don't change. I also have one dress shirt, but for some strange reason I have about five ties. As for the nosh-up it was superb. We hardly eat red meat at home any more so we opted for steak and it was cooked to perfection. The event was held in a venerable old hotel in Kitchener, that has been very tastefully restored. It was my first time there and was glad of the opportunity. The weather was crappy and parking was a couple of blocks away, so we even splurged and took a cab to and from the hotel.
