You comment re heligoland trap...Good Morning David. You comment re heligoland traps certainly set me reminiscing about the ones at Long Point. They were highly effective due to the narowness of the isthmus of Long Point. At times we had to open the catching box to let birds through qas there were too many to cope with whn 2 or 3 banders. I remember one morning in particular with thousands of kinglets and alwats dozens of White-troated Sparrows. Take a look at these links. I met there at LP one of the authors - David Hussell.

https://www.jstor.org/stable/4510879?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents

http://sora.unm.edu/sites/default/files/journals/jfo/v032n03/p0125-p0141.pdf

https://ofnc.wordpress.com/2014/02/08/a-visit-to-long-point-bird-observatory/

Phil Sladehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01846400106748443969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1519151644964316600.post-56185048449061634842016-09-01T06:52:50.774-04:002016-09-01T06:52:50.774-04:00Hi David.. No wonder you are so enthusiastic! Whilst I still have mixed feelings about banding, I can see the benefit in gaining an understanding of the travels of migrating birds, especially when the environment is so fragile in some of their destinations. I take great comfort in knowing these birds will be in safe hands during the banding process, under your caring supervision!Richard Peglerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05115206853645323899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1519151644964316600.post-87186079371191850012016-08-31T10:23:58.435-04:002016-08-31T10:23:58.435-04:00This is basically "my" banding station, ...This is basically "my" banding station, Richard, so there will be more to come.
